UK to Remove 999L Code from Export Declarations—What’s Next?

Starting January 31, 2025, the 999L waiver code will no longer be valid in UK export declarations. This temporary measure was introduced during the transition from CHIEF to CDS, but HMRC is now enforcing updated compliance rules.
❌ Why Is 999L Being Removed?
999L was used for items without special document requirements, but it was only meant as a short-term solution. After the deadline, export declarations using 999L will be rejected, leading to potential border delays and compliance issues.
✅ What Should Exporters Use Instead?
HMRC has introduced ten national waiver codes to replace 999L, including:
📌 912Y – Animal Health Certificate
📌 9020, 9026, 9044 – Firearms & Ammunition Licensing
📌 9043 – Explosives Transfer Approval
📌 920Y – HMI Conformity Certificate (fruit & veg)
📌 991Y–994Y – Quarantine Release Certificates
🔄 How to Stay Compliant
🔹 Check the UK Tariff for the correct waiver codes.
🔹 Update your customs software to align with CDS requirements.
🔹 Test your declarations before the deadline to ensure compliance.
Delays and fines are avoidable—make the switch now and keep your exports running smoothly.
